When I decided to change careers, I fell into the
nameplate business by accident. I sent resumes to every company who made record
accessories and was listed in Billboard magazine. I interviewed with the owner
of LCM on several occasions as I was not sure I wanted to do this. (They never
made record accessories, had molded an LP divider for the playboy club and the
owner figured a free listing would garner more business.)
For the first couple of years, I was pretty miserable
then all of a sudden, I realized that I like making product identification. We
turned the company around and started building it from nothing. It was a lot of
fun and I had some great people working for me. Peavey Electronics was one of
our biggest accounts and I always liked going south to visit and working with
these guys - kept me close to the music.
Anyway the deal was that I would build the company up
and the owner would sell it to me. Never worked out, so we parted company (not
amicably) and I went to work for an injection molding company as sales manager.
However, I was not happy and Sherri said why don't you figure something to do
that you like.
Well, while I was out of work and trying to decide what
I really wanted - I learned that my old company which had been sold was
about out of business (a combination of declining sales due to the old owner
going back to his cheap ways and the new
owners not knowing what to do with what they had bought). So I decided that I
really did love making nameplates and with Sherri's help started
ID3.
When I started
ID3, I was overwhelmed with the number
of people who came out of the woodwork to help me be successful.
